Palma Nova on Mallorca, Spain

Palma Nova was the first purpose-built resort town on Mallorca, and remains an attractive option for holidaymakers seeking the quintessential sun, sea, and sand experience. It has a great climate and lots of sunny weather. Generally considered more subdued than its boisterous neighbour Magaluf, Palma Nova is well suited for families, couples, and groups who want a more relaxed holiday experience.

Palma Nova lies 15 km (9 miles) west of Palma de Mallorca and 25 km (16 miles) west of the Palma de Mallorca Airport. Flights from nearly all major European cities to Mallorca are widely available from April through October.

Airport transfer time to Palma Nova is 30 minutes and there are a variety of hotels and resorts to choose from in town ranging from simple budget accommodation, to lavish 5-star resorts.

Beaches at Palma Nova

Palma Nova HomePalma Nova is home to three gorgeous white sand beaches that together are the star attraction of the town. Son Matias beach is the closest to Magaluf and a hub for water sports. Several boat excursions, snorkelling, and diving trips depart from Son Matias. Neighbouring Palma Nova beach lies at the centre of town and just beyond that is Es Carregador beach.

All three beaches feature soft white sand, crystal clear waters, as well as a wide range of activities and amenities. Glass-bottomed boat rides are available from Son Matias Beach, whilst Es Carregador is popular for its laid-back atmosphere and seafood restaurants. Sea kayaking, banana boat rides, and jet skiing are all popular water sports in Palma Nova.

Palma Nova Dining

From affordable fast food to fine dining, Palma Nova has it all. Budget travellers will find plenty of affordable cafes as well as familiar eateries like McDonalds in town. Mid-range restaurants serving Spanish tapas, local seafood and Mallorcan fare are also plentiful, particularly near the marina. Most resorts and hotels in Palma Nova also offer a mix of continental, English, and local cuisine. Restaurants remain open until well into the night.

Entertainment and Activities in Palma Nova

As a purpose-built resort town, Palma Nova is always buzzing with activity. There is an entertaining mini-golf course near the centre of town that acts as a great family-friendly attraction. Katmandu Park, which contains multiple rides and attractions, is located on the outskirts of town.

Tourists staying in Palma Nova can also easily walk to neighbouring Magaluf to enjoy its legendary nightlife, including the famous Pirate Adventures Show.

Magaluf is home to many nightclubs that attract younger visitors and a large English-speaking crowd. Most are located along the town’s main thoroughfare, known as the ‘Magaluf Strip’. Just beyond Magaluf are two water parks, Aqualand and Wild Western World Water Park, both of which make for great days out.
